MORE buyers and the dry season positively influenced prices at the quarterly Dubbo goat sale,
where priced improved as much as $10 to $15 a head.
The sale, held on Tuesday May 8, attracted an extra two buyers from Sydney as well as Victoria
according to selling agent Joe Portelli, PT Lord Dakin and Associates.
“Restocker activity was limited due to the dry season,” he said. “Competition on kill goats from
processors was strong due to the lack of good quality goats available as a result of the dry.”
More than 2000 goats were yarded, made up of about 70 per cent Australian bush goats and 30 per cent Boer goats.
Boer wethers sold up to $150/head for a pen of two-year- olds.
A pen of better presented milk-tooth Boer wethers sold for $105/hd, purchased by feedlotters at Griffith.
The top-end Boer does sold for $140/hd from Michael Lindsay, “Goan Creek”, Ballimore who
dispersed his herd at the sale.
A single Boer buck sold for $260.
Australian bush bucks sold to $118 on account of the Bruce family, Bugaldie, while bush nannies sold to $95/hd.
Youngsters Jordan Sternbeck and Tom Moore (pictured), both from Coolah, penned bush goats to enter in the sale, making a top of $110/hd for a pen of bush bucks.
They also sold two pens of bush does, earning $74/hd for one pen and $94/hd for the other.
