A good field of buyers helped lift prices by as much as $30 a head at the Dubbo store cattle sale on Friday May 4.

Signs of the dry conditions were evident among the yarding however a good selection of well-presented weaner cattle was also on offer.

A total of 1040 head were yarded at the sale.

Steer weaners sold from $205 to $820/head for well-presented EU Angus weaners from Peter Moppett, Noan Pastoral Company, Quambone.

Another pen of Mr Moppett’s sold for $725/hd for a pen of 14 steers of the same description.

Joe Portelli, PT Lord Dakin and Associates, Dubbo with vendor Peter Moppett, Noan Pastoral Company, Quambone. Mr Moppett’s pen of 14 EU Angus steers topped the steer category of the sale at $820 a head.

Weaner heifers sold from $255 to $715/hd for Angus heifers. This category averaged $445/hd.

Cows and calves also sold dearer, topping at $1090/unit for a line of four to eight-year-old Angus cows with young calves at foot.

A line of Droughtmaster units sold for $1035/unit while the balance of the cows and calves sold from $390 to $970/unit.

Pregnancy-tested-in-calf pens sold from $400 to $690/hd.

Dry cows sold from $190 to $500/hd.

Mr Moppett was happy with the price he received for his line of June/July 2017-drop Angus steers, which weighed about 280-300 kilograms, at Friday’s sale.

“We would normally grow them out to 400 kilograms but it’s getting too dry to continue finishing them,” he said.
