Last Friday’s store cattle sale featured approximately 1400 head of cattle – the biggest store cattle yarding for some months.

Selling was tough due to seasonal conditions and prices were cheaper across all sections, however both buyers and vendors walked away happy according to selling agent Mark Garland, PT Lord Dakin and Associates, Dubbo.

“It was a tough day under the current seasonal conditions,” he said. “We were lucky enough to have buyer support from the Bathurst and Orange areas where there has been a bit of green feed up to date.”

Friday’s sale featured mainly weaner cattle, with limited pens of yearlings.

Steer weaners sold from $175 to $640 a head for a pen of four Charolais steers.

The team at PT Lord Dakin and Associates sold this pen of weaner steers for $570/head on behalf of vendors the Hill family, “Biamble”, Mendooran.

In the heifer category, weaners sold to $440/hd while yearlings topped at $760/hd. The best were a line of Santa Gertrudis heifers which sold for $440/head and a pen of Charolais-cross yearlings which made $760/hd.

The best of the cows and calves were a pen of Santa Gertrudis units that sold for $925/unit, while the balance of the cows and calves sold from $620 for Bos Indicus cross units to $895/head for Hereford/Angus-cross units with good sized calves at foot from the Packham family, Coolah.

PTIC cows sold from $290 for crossbred cows to $800 for good quality Angus cows, while dry cows sold from $190 to $535/head.
