What a cracking sale at yesterday’s store cattle sale at Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets where 2900 cattle were yarded.
It was the largest store yarding for some time and it did not disappoint with 2500 one-brand cattle from the Walker family on offer.
Tony Morcom, PT Lord Dakin and Associates, said the strong sale result was a credit to the Walker family.
“Buyers came from Longreach, South Australia and Victoria, as well as the local area.”
Auctioneer Mark Garland, PT Lord Dakin and Associates, said there had been very strong enquiry for the Walker family heifers.
“It was a very strong sale. It’s not very often you get to stand up over so many one-brand cattle.”
“Heifers sold to very strong demand, driven by buyers wanting quality females for when the season breaks.”
The top pen of steers was a run of 100 Angus/Santa cross weaner steers from the Walker family’s 2500-head strong offering. They sold for $950/hd to an Echuca buyer.
Steer weaners averaged $645/hd. A couple of pens of yearling steers on offer fetched $720 and $890/hd.
The top heifers was also a pen of the Walker family’s Angus/Santa cross offering. The top line of 80 head sold for $880/hd.
A local buyer from the Geurie district purchased a line of 218 of the Walker family heifers for $680/hd.
Cows and calves were $200/head dearer than the previous months sale.
The best of the cows and calves were a line of mixed age Angus cows with good size calves at foot. They sold for $1,260 while the balance of the cows and calves sold from $810 for crossbreds to $1,080 for a line of Hereford Angus cross units.
