Lamb prices continue to climb at the weekly prime sheep and lamb sale at Dubbo, where 29,254 head were yarded yesterday.
The return of a major supermarket buyer and a southern export processor helped push prices up as much as $13/head for lambs and $16/head in the mutton market.
Trade lambs trended $6 to $10 dearer, making up to $204 for 18-24kg lambs while heavy lambs, over 24kg, made as from $193 to $270/hd.
Merino lamb prices increased by as much as $8/hd, selling for $136 to $175 for trade weights and $190 to $227 for heavy weights.
Hoggets sold to $208/head.
Top quotes for the day include a big run of crossbred lambs sold by Christie and Hood, on behalf of the Shanks family, Dubbo. The tops of their draft made $270/head for 224 head, while the next cut of 93 made $253.20/hd.
The Kerin family, “Happy Valley”, Narromine sold a run of 315 crossbred lambs for $268.60/hd. The second cut of 187 head, made $235/hd.
The team at CPS Thomas sold a run of 338 crossbred lambs for $223/hd and the second cut of 309 lambs for $205.
Merino sheep were firm to $4 dearer and the crossbreds were $10 to $16/head dearer in the mutton market. The better conditioned ewes made from $100 to $237 for crossbreds and $235 for full fleeced Merinos. Merino wethers sold to $210/head.
