There was a smaller percentage of light weight pens at yesterday’s weekly sheep and lamb sale.
Numbers were up by almost 6000 head compared to last week, with 26,422 head yarded.
A good selection of heavy weight lambs were on offer, along with some good runs of Merino lambs.
Light weight lambs to the processors were firm to $3 cheaper, with the 12-18kg 2 scores making from $85 to $139/head.
Trade lambs were firm to $3 dearer, with the 18-24kg lambs receiving from $135 to $195/head to average from 760c to 795c/kg cwt.
Heavy weight lambs sold $4 to $9 dearer, with the 25-30kg lambs making from $183 to $234, while the lambs over 30kg sold from $233 to $268/head to average 770c/kg cwt.

Vendor Owen Johns, “Bellerive”, Ponto sold 82 heavy weight lambs at yesterday’s weekly sheep and lamb sale which made $252/hd. The lambs weighed up to 82 kilograms. He sold 50 lambs as the second cut from the draft for $225/hd. He is pictured with agent Ross Plasto, Plasto and Company, Wellington.
Merino lambs were firm, with trade weight Merinos, making from $142 to $170, while heavy weight Merinos sold from $180 to $200/head.
Restocker lambs were close to firm, receiving from $106 to $160, while light weight Merinos to the restockers sold from $65 to $95/head. Hoggets sold to $200/head.
Most grades were represented in a mixed yarding of mutton where most grades were $4 to $7/head cheaper. 2 score ewes sold from $65 to $107, while the better 3 and 4 scores made from $95 to $231 for crossbreds and $223/head for Merinos. Merino wethers sold to $228 and very heavy crossbred wethers sold to $245/head. Carcase prices for the better covered sheep received from 540c to 635c/kg cwt.
