Despite being described as a “typical drought yarding”, today’s weekly prime cattle sale at Dubbo did have some highlights.

Young cattle to the trade sold for as much as 10c/kg dearer. Prime steer yearlings sold up to 305c/kg while heifers of the same category sold up to 283c/kg.

While most other categories sold to a cheaper trend compared to last week’s sale, competition for cows resulted in an improvement in price.

Plain conditioned cows were 8 to 12c/kg dearer, selling from 70 to 171c/kg while the better finished cows were 140 to 218c/kg.

There were limited numbers of feeder cattle offered in the yarding of 4740 head.
